Six Adjustments, One Bench Build
An adjustable hosel gives us half-degree loft control before a single component is even ordered. Pair that with sole weight positioning and most modern driver heads let us reshape launch and spin without touching the shaft at all — useful for narrowing in fast, before the more expensive shaft testing begins.
Sole design plays a bigger role than golfers expect too: a driver head with a low, deep center of gravity climbs launch and trims spin for players fighting a weak ball flight, while a more neutral CG keeps things workable for anyone who likes to shape a shot on purpose.
Numbers That Actually Predict Your Miss
Ball Speed & Smash Factor
Ball speed divided by clubhead speed tells us how efficiently contact is being made, independent of raw power. A lower ratio usually points to a strike or shaft-fit issue before we blame swing speed.
Spin Axis
A tilted spin axis is what curves the ball, separate from how much total spin the shot carries. We chart axis tilt across a full set of swings, not just the two or three cleanest ones.
Angle of Attack
Swinging down on a driver instead of up on it is the single biggest reason golfers lose distance to excess spin. This number alone often reshapes what shaft we reach for next.
Dynamic Loft
The loft delivered at impact rarely matches the static loft stamped on the head. Shaft flex, release timing, and even grip pressure all shift this number in ways a chart can't predict.
Carry vs. Total Distance
A high-spin driver can roll out further than a low-spin one loses in carry, or the reverse, depending on turf conditions. We look at both figures together, not carry distance alone.
Dispersion Width
Consistency matters more than peak distance for most scorecards. A club that trims fifteen yards off your widest miss is often a bigger win than one that adds five yards to your best swing.
What Happens After We Land on a Spec
Testing wraps up once a head, shaft, and loft setting produce the tightest dispersion your swing allows. From there the same person who ran your appointment moves straight to the bench: boring the hosel to the exact bore-thru angle the spec calls for, cutting the shaft to length, and setting swingweight on our scale before the epoxy ever goes in.
We let every driver cure a full 24 hours before it leaves the shop — rushing that step is the single most common reason a shaft works loose in the hosel months later, and it's not a corner we'll cut to hand you a same-day club.
